NetEnt to Develop Planet of the Apes Slot
Slot game developer NetEnt signed a deal with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products to exclusively licence the Planet of the Apes film franchise for NetEnt’s Planet of the Apes slot which is sure to create a huge buzz among film fans and slot game players.
The partnership covers the entire Planet of the Apes brand that has a rich heritage which dates back more than 50 years. NetEnt Planet of the Apes slot will be the first time this brand is used in online casino gaming.
The game is to be released in the second half of 2017. The game will offer stunning graphics and unique game technology that will bring to life the power and excitement of the brand.
The Planet of the Apes franchise originated with a 1963 novel by Pierre Boulle titled La Planète des Singes that was quickly adapted into a 1968 movie Planet of the Apes starring Charlton Heston that initiated a series of sequels and derivative works.
There were four sequels to the original movie, and in 2001 Tim Burton did a remake of the original movie, starring Mark Wahlberg. In 2011 the series really blossomed with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, followed by 2014 Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The third movie, War for the Planet of the Apes, is due to be released on July 14, 2017, and will likely coincide with a NetEnt slot that’s appropriately due to be released “in the second half of 2017”.
It remains to be seen which title will NetEnt choose for their slot game, the original Planet of the Apes covering the base of the entire franchise, or will they go straight for the War for the Planet of the Apes, or a mix of the two.
The news about NetEnt is coming only days after Playtech announced their DC Comics deal. This arms race between slot game developers will only benefit the players, as they’ll soon have Superman and Planet of the Apes slot games to enjoy, sometime in 2017.
Simon Hammon, CPO, NetEnt:
“Planet of the Apes is one of the largest film franchises in the world never to have been applied to gaming before. With such a rich history, the brand resonates with everyone that has grown up with the films, and it will fit perfectly with NetEnt’s wide and divers player base. We are thrilled to have signed the franchise, and can’t wait to offer the game to players later in the year.”
